Sex Ed Sit Out Statement
We are aware that some of our parents have chosen to keep their children home from school today to participate in a “Sex Ed Sit Out.” We would like to direct all of our Westwind families to our current Communication to Parents Policy #155.0, which states that “school administration shall give parents/guardians the opportunity to exercise the decision to “opt out” a student from curricular content that is sexual in nature. As a partner in your child's education, we want you to know that we hear you, we understand your frustrations and we respect that parents are the first and foremost teacher in the lives of their children.
We would also like to include a link to the current Sex Ed Curriculum for parents to review.
We appreciate the interest and engagement of our parents in their children’s education and we encourage our parents to share their feedback with Alberta Education directly.
